Having been involved with IT for almost 20 years and selling flash memory for more than 5 years we have an interest in ensuring we offer our customer the best VALUE, that doesn’t always mean the cheapest, more like best price/performance/reliability.

We have always done speed testing so we can give honest advice, we have seen 20x cards become 40x and one brand launch high speed cards which were exactly the same as the standard ones just more expensive, ironically in that instance the supposed standard card that was introduced was actually faster. With this and almost 20 years IT experience we are inclined to be SCEPTICAL about what is claimed for IT products, hence these tests.

The tests are purely comparative, they aren’t to be used as an actual performance figure, maybe you can get 20MB per second as claimed by many but you won’t see any figure like that in these results. No doubt you can write the exact right size of file to the card and multiply that through to be 20MB per second, we will leave the lies, damned lies and statistics to others, we are interested in JUST THE FACTS.

Manufacturers always reserve the right to change specification and that means you can’t be sure what you will get. We are quoting as much information from the card in the results as possible and will have hi resolution photos of the back of the card available shortly. We don’t anticipate testing every card, when new stock arrives we check this against previous records / part numbers etc and retest / update as appropriate consistent with performance verification.

The tests are done on a single PC using a test program, in addition we write the whole card with zeros which is a simple test of the write speed. Read speeds are amazingly consistent amongst all cards.

The cards are all empty and are formatted prior to testing. The actual tests are done at least three times and the average calculated, we periodically retest to ensure the results past and current are consistent.
